Come experience the beauty of the nature preserve woods in early spring. \n  \nSpring Wildflowers of Audubon State Park—10:00 A.M.: Attend this indoor photo presentation on the typical ephemeral flora found in John James Audubon State Park. Park Naturalist\, Lisa Hoffman\, will introduce you to our common wildflowers and share some interesting folklore for the plants. Meets inside the Audubon Museum. Approx. 45 minutes. \n  \nWildflower Walk–11 A.M.: Join our naturalist for this leisurely ¼ -1/2 mile walk in and around our woods as we try to identify as many early wildflowers as we can. This walk will likely pass by areas of Virginia Bluebells\, Cut-Leaf Toothwort\, Dutchman’s Breeches\, and more. Gather on the Audubon Museum front lawn. Walk will cover an accessible trail suitable for all ages and abilities. Approx. 45 minutes. \n  \nWildflower Walk & Scavenger Hunt–1:00 P.M.: Meet on the Audubon Museum front lawn for this moderately challenging 1-mile walk over hilly terrain. This naturalist-led hike will point out ephemeral wildflowers and will share folklore about the plants.  We will up the fun by making it a scavenger hunt! How many flowers can you check off the list? Our numbers will be submitted to the Great Backyard Bird Count citizen science project. FREE \n  \nWhat’s that Bird? Tips on Identifying Your Backyard Guests–10 A.M.–Attend this quick seminar to get you on the road to identifying the birds around you. Our naturalist will share bird ID tips. FREE \n  \nFeathered Friends Around Us Birding Hike—12:30-1:30 P.M.—Walk the wooded trails with our naturalist to listen and watch for birds in their habitat. This guided hike will cover about 1-mile and will focus on bird identification. Meets on the Museum front lawn. FREE \n  \nCrafting for the Birds—1:45-2:45 P.M.—This drop-in workshop includes crafting adorable little seed-covered birdhouses to hang on a tree or shrub branch in your yard\, giving an extra nutritional boost to the winter diet of your foraging yard birds. Suitable for all ages. $5 per craft \n  \nFlying into Citizen Science: Ways to Make Birdwatching Count–3 P.M.–Learn of various ways you\, your family\, and friends can make birdwatching not only enjoyable\, but meaningful! SUMMARY:M. Bernard Loates Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Many artists have attempted to reproduce Audubon’s work\, but few have done so as well as M. Bernard Loates. Loates is a Canadian artist and printer who reproduced some of Audubon’s best-known Birds of America prints. Each print is signed\, numbered\, and corresponds with a bibliographic entry featuring some of M. Bernard Loates’ personal drawings of the birds proving him to be both a master printer and artist. This exhibit features the Sandhill Crane pictured below and 4 other birds.\n\n\n\nThis exhibit is FREE and can be viewed in the Lobby of the Museum. The exhibit will run until July so don’t miss out! The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday 9 A.M. to 4 P.M.

John James Audubon State Park will host two First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day\, 2025. Hike #1 will begin at 11 A.M. and Hike #2 will start at 2:00 P.M. All participants\, please meet our naturalist on the Audubon Museum front lawn to be counted in this First Day event and help us beat our attendance record!! Hikers should be prepared to experience the winter woods from pristine valley to upland forest and back\, a picturesque 1-mile guided hike over hilly terrain. These will start out as guided hikes but can diverge from there if you’d prefer to go your own way. Sturdy shoes\, walking sticks\, and attire suitable for the day’s weather are recommended. DESCRIPTION:November—Exact date TBD \nJohn James Audubon Museum \nCost: Free \n  \nIn collaboration with the Kentucky Historical Society\, a traveling exhibition commemorating Kentucky State Parks’ centennial anniversary will be coming to Audubon State Park! The exhibition presents the history of KY State Parks from 1924 to the present day\, exploring various themes and featuring images of artifacts\, archival materials\, and photographs from the collections of both the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Department of Parks. Exact dates of the exhibit have not been determined yet\, but it should be taking place in November. Cost for viewing the exhibit will be free\, and it will be open during regular business hours of 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.

Monies collected go toward funding Junior Achievement programs in the Henderson area. Check-in on the day of the event begins at 7:30 A.M. and the 5K starts at 9 A.M.

SUMMARY:Spooky Tales and Nighttime Trails
DESCRIPTION:A frightfully fun evening of night hikes and spooky stories! Beginning at 6:30 P.M.\, let our park naturalists lead you into the preserve for a night adventure on the trail. Learn of the mysterious and perhaps creepy nocturnal creatures of the woods in several stops along the way. By 8 P.M.\, our hike will conclude at a shelter house for a session of spooky tales as told by our friends\, the RiverTown StoryTellers. Stories are appropriate for all ages. Cost of admission is $5.00\, cash only at the gate. Hikers are advised to wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and to dress for the weather. Meets at the Welcome Center/Warbler Road Trailhead. \n  \nContact: Lisa Hoffman at 502-782-9727 or lisa.hoffman@ky.gov for further details. \n  \nStories will be moved indoors\, and alternative activities implemented\, in the event of inclement weather.
