SUMMARY:What's the Bird? Nature Preserve Hike
DESCRIPTION:Birdwatching can keep you occupied throughout the year\, but the fall bird migration is a special time to encounter neo-tropical species as they travel through our area on the way to warmer climes. Join us on this free\, guided hike in our nature preserve as we search and listen for birds in the canopy. Discussion will include information on how to identify the birds around us. If you’re not a birder\, that’s okay\, you can still take part in this enjoyable 1-mile hike. The preserve is hilly\, so wear sturdy shoes. Our art instructor will lead you in creating your very own butterfly\, and in decorating a terrarium to house it in. Workshop fee is $20/person\, for ages 16+\, all materials included. SUMMARY:Monarch Migration Mysteries
DESCRIPTION:Learn of the incredible Monarch Butterflies and their journey south for the winter! Meet at Audubon’s Lakeview Shelter for an informative presentation about these beautiful creatures. Take part in citizen-science\, when you use your own transportation to caravan to a site of outdoor Monarch tagging. Tags and butterfly nets provided. We’ll show you how it’s done! Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Admission is $5; cash only at the shelter (Discounts for FOA members and for 4 or more people in the same family. Children under age 4 are free). If unfavorable weather conditions are present that day\, the program will be canceled. Please watch our Facebook and Instagram pages for announcements.
