On Saturday, October 24, several families came to the Audubon Museum and Nature Center at John James Audubon State Park for the 2020 Halloween Bash, a Halloween-themed art class for children ages 3-8. Due to precautions made necessary by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Kentucky, the class was limited to fewer than nine students and masks were required for all adults and children over the age of 5. Art educator Kim Ligget-McGrew encouraged everyone to wear a fun costume. She led the class in creating Halloween art including paintings of pumpkins, spiders, and hats. A highlight of the day was a special visit from Owlivia the owl, who was rescued in Owensboro six years ago after an injury. She was brought out from the Nature Center by assistant naturalist Jackie Crowley. Despite the adjustments to this year’s Halloween Bash, everyone seemed to have a good time (as you can see in the photos below).
