This is a hand-colored lithograph of John Woodhouse Audubon’s, Puss on a Sporting Expedition, also known as Cat Stalking Bird on Bough. The image shows a cat on a split rail fence poised to catch a song sparrow. There are inscriptions along the bottom edge of print, but much it is cut off. The print on the lower left corner reads, “Drawn on Stone by J C Colen [?].” Beneath the image at center is “….in the year 1851 by J. W. Audubon in the …District Court of South[?]…District of N.Y.” Printed at the lower right side is, “Print by Nagel & Weingaertner N.Y.”
