Description

This is a set of five original prints from the first Royal Octavo edition of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, including plate 139 Mountain Mocking Bird, plate 258 Canadian Woodpecker, plate 366 Least Bittern, plate 447 White-winged Silvery Gull, and plate 479 Crested Grebe.

A private collector donated these prints to the Friends of Audubon. All proceeds benefit fundraising efforts for the Unmatched Art, Unmatched Nature matching grant campaign.

Plate 258 – Canadian Woodpecker
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Slight text offsetting visible.

Plate 366 – Least Bittern
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Tissue guard still attached. Slight text offsetting visible. Cockling along right edge of paper.

Plate 447 – White-winged Silvery Gull
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Slight text offsetting visible. Accompanied by original text (pages 159-160).

Plate 479 – Crested Grebe
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Slight discoloration.
