Description

This is a set of five original prints from the first Royal Octavo edition of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, including plate 220 Boat-tailed Grackle, plate 305 American Coot, plate 444 Kittiwake Gull, plate 487 Smith’s Lark Bunting, and plate 495 Nuttall’s Whip-poor-will.

A private collector donated these prints to the Friends of Audubon. All proceeds benefit fundraising efforts for the Unmatched Art, Unmatched Nature matching grant campaign.

Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Slight text offsetting visible.

Plate 305 – American Coot
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Foxing. Slight discoloration. Slight cockling close to binding.

Plate 444 – Kittiwake Gull
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Foxing.

Plate 487 – Smith’s Lark Bunting
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Cockling across paper. Accompanied by original text (page 336).

Plate 495 – Nuttall’s Whip-poor-will
