Description

This is a set of five original prints from the first Royal Octavo edition of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, including plate 151 Shore Lark, plate 280 White-headed Dove or Pigeon, plate 336 Semipalmated Sandpiper, plate 455 Fulmar Petrel, and plate 497 Western Shore Lark.

A private collector donated these prints to the Friends of Audubon. All proceeds benefit fundraising efforts for the Unmatched Art, Unmatched Nature matching grant campaign.

Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident.

Plate 280 – White-headed Dove or Pigeon
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Tear in upper left corner of paper.

Plate 336 – Semipalmated Sandpiper
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Tissue guard still attached. Discoloration in upper right corner of paper. Foxing.

Plate 455 – Fulmar Petrel
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Foxing.

Plate 497 – Western Shore Lark
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Some discoloration.
