Description

This is a set of five original prints from the first Royal Octavo edition of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, including plate 173 MacGillivray’s Shore Finch, plate 338 Sanderling Sandpiper, plate 347 Semipalmated Snipe Willet or Stone Curlew, plate 349 Hudsonian Godwit, and plate 457 Mank’s Shearwater.

A private collector donated these prints to the Friends of Audubon. All proceeds benefit fundraising efforts for the Unmatched Art, Unmatched Nature matching grant campaign.

Plate 347 – Semipalmated Snipe Willet or Stone Curlew
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Cockling across paper. Foxing. Accompanied by original text (pages 324-330).

Plate 349 – Hudsonian Godwit
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident.

Plate 457 – Mank’s Shearwater
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Cockling across paper. Discoloration.
