Description

This is a set of five original prints from the first Royal Octavo edition of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, including plate 129 Chestnut-backed Titmouse, plate 158 Lark Bunting, plate 239 Solitary Vireo or Greenlet, plate 331 Buff-breasted Sandpiper, and plate 455 Fulmar Petrel.

A private collector donated these prints to the Friends of Audubon. All proceeds benefit fundraising efforts for the Unmatched Art, Unmatched Nature matching grant campaign.

Plate 239 – Solitary Vireo or Greenlet
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Foxing. Accompanied by original text (page 144).

Plate 331 – Buff-breasted Sandpiper
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Foxing.

Plate 455 – Fulmar Petrel
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Small area of discoloration near the top center of paper.
