Gold and amethyst

This is an amethyst and gold cross pendant/brooch. The brooch has nine amethysts that include four large and four small pear-shaped stones and one round stone in the center. The stones are set in a highly textured and decorative gold setting. The back is inscribed with the following: top left “JJA,” top right, “To LA,” bottom left, “Edinburgh,” and bottom right, “Dec. 25. 1826.” The top of the brooch has a ring for looping a chain or ribbon through and a straight pin for attaching to clothing.
