Description

This is a set of five original prints from the first Royal Octavo edition of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, including plate 152 Lapland Lark Bunting, plate 311 Virginian Rail, plate 341 Wilson’s Phalarope, plate 456 Wandering Shearwater, and plate 489 Missouri Meadow Lark.

A private collector donated these prints to the Friends of Audubon. All proceeds benefit fundraising efforts for the Unmatched Art, Unmatched Nature matching grant campaign.

Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Slight text offsetting visible. Some discoloration along edges of paper.

Plate 311 – Virginian Rail
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Foxing.

Plate 341 – Wilson’s Phalarope
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Cockling across paper. Accompanied by original text (pages 299-302).

Plate 456 – Wandering Shearwater
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Some buckling. Discoloration. Accompanied by original text (page 212).

Plate 489 – Missouri Meadow Lark
Original first edition measuring 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Binding holes still evident. Slight cockling.
