Are you passionate about history and love to share a good tale of adventure, love, and resilience? Then the John James Audubon Museum is the place for you! The John James Audubon Museum located in beautiful Audubon State Park is seeking docents to lead tours of the museum’s collection for schoolchildren, church groups, riverboat passengers, and other guests. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who loves history, nature, and all things Audubon to help visitors better understand and enjoy their visit to the museum.
Museum Docents serve to engage visitors in the story of John James Audubon and his family through one of the world’s largest collections of Audubon art and artifacts. These specially-trained museum ambassadors strive to provide enriching and meaningful experiences for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Prior docent experience or knowledge of Audubon are not required, but candidates must be comfortable speaking to large groups of schoolchildren and adults for varying lengths of time.
Training will be provided by the museum curator and opportunities to assist in other areas of the museum, including developing special tours, may be available. Candidates must complete a volunteer application that includes a background check. For more information about this non-paying docent opportunity please contact Jennifer Spence, Museum Curator, jennifer.spence@ky.gov or (270) 827-1893.
